1The checklist
- Buy your domain in the company's name. Use a company account so it doesn't depend on one employee or an agency.
- Choose an email provider. Compare the main options in India.
- Connect your domain. Follow how to create a custom domain email address.
- Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC, then check your domain.
- Create your first addresses from the list below.
- Add a signature with your company name and contact details, using the free signature generator.
2Addresses to create first
| Address | Used for | Setup |
|---|---|---|
| yourname@ | The owner or director | Mailbox |
| accounts@ | Invoices, GST and your accountant | Alias, or a shared mailbox as you grow |
| info@ | General enquiries and your website | Alias |
| sales@ | New customers | Alias |
| hr@ or careers@ | Hiring | Alias |
Aliases deliver to your own mailbox and don't use a seat, so a one-person company can run all of these from one inbox, from ₹29 a month before GST. See how to set up employee email as you hire.
3After DPIIT recognition
Applying for DPIIT recognition, or already recognised? Startup India says to apply with the startup's own details, mobile number and email. That makes it a good time to set up a company address first, one that stays with the startup and that a founder can always open.
Startups and businesses with a DPIIT, Udyam or GST certificate can apply to our Startup Programme. Our team checks each application. If you're approved, you get 25% off your first yearly bill, then 3 months added to your subscription. SyncGaze isn't connected to any government scheme.
4Where to use your new address
- Invoices, quotes and purchase orders
- Your website, visiting cards and Google Business Profile
- Bank, accountant and supplier contacts
- Software accounts for your company, so they stay with the business
If you change a contact address held on a government portal, follow that portal's own process, and keep that mailbox active so you don't miss any notices.
5Questions
Do I need a business email to register a company in India?
This guide does not cover legal requirements. We are not saying a domain email is needed to register a company or get Udyam. Check the current rules on the official portal or with your advisor.
Do I need a domain email for DPIIT recognition?
We found no such requirement on the official Startup India pages we checked in November 2026. Startup India says to apply with the startup's own details, mobile number and email. Check the current rules on the official site.
Should I buy a .in or a .com domain?
Either works for email. A .in or .co.in domain signals an Indian business, and .com suits a company selling abroad. Pick the name that is short and easy to spell.
Which address should I use on official registrations?
Use one that stays with the company, and that a director or owner can always access. Avoid an address tied to an employee who might leave.
